I'm looking back at last year's pictures from the Christmas parties I attended and I can't believe how I got it so horribly wrong with my party wear outfits. What was I thinking wearing that blue cocktail dress which did absolutely nothing to flatter my body shape. Pictures do indeed tell a thousand words and my Christmas photos are screaming "that's what happens when you buy in desperation at the last minute and don't plan your wardrobe by trying outfits on before your big party and not ensuring you have the right bra and under pants to suit your attire".
I remember hurriedly hitting he high street in desperate search of party wear outfits last year. This Christmas I'm not going to be caught out. While party invites have not started pouring in as yet, if I'm going to avoid last year's pitfalls then I have to get my party wear wardrobe ready and that means down to the last details of jewellery accessories (necklaces, cuffs, bracelets, rings etc) shoes, underwear i.e the right bra and pants for each outfit and winter coat or wool wrap.
Right now I'm letting my fingers do the walking and taking advantage of online sales and voucher sale codes to find the perfect formal partywear cocktail dresses and casual partywear. If like me you like designer dresses at discounted prices then have a browse on dress for less which offers designer clothes at reduced prices like this silk dress by Traffic People. I'm also taking advantage of online sales from my favorite high brands like Marks and Spencers, Debenhams, John Lewis.
Really the first thing to do is to check the wardrobe for old party wear favourites to see what fits and still flatters. But us girls simply must have something new even if it is a new unique necklace or cuff bracelet to brighten up and put a new lease of life on an old party favorite. Bejewelled cuffs are a great fashion must have this season and this black wood bangle bracelet with circular 925 Sterling Silver turquoise gems is just what I need to glamourize this silk dress.
More than the dancing on Strictly Come Dancing I'm always fascinated with the ladies attire. The costume of the week for me last Saturday at Wembley was Holly Valance's with dance partner Artem Chigvintsev in their superbly choreographed quick step. Click on the video link below to see Holly in action.
While there is room for improvement in this somewhat timidly executed quick step, Holly's green and beige dress took me right back to the '60's and her hairstyle reminded me of Barbara Feldon from the acclaimed Get Smart TV series of 1965-1970.
The results show yesterday was also electric with the opening group dance to sixties music putting me in the mood for short skirts, mini dresses and boots like this colour block shift dress from Ann Harvey of London.. I've always wanted to buy myself a red coat but never felt brave enough. Actually when I think about it it has nothing to do with courage but wearability. Practicality I just could not imagine wearing a red coat 24/7. So I kept telling myself that once I have my must have coats in more versatile colours like black and brown then I could certainly extend my winter coat collection by adding more colour.
But last year I chickened out again and bought a lambswool burnt orange coat which I simply love and just had to buy. Today however I popped into Marks and Spencer to get some sandwiches and like a bee to honey couldn't resist this red corduroy coat from M&S' Per Una collection.
Mind you it is not just any red coat but the shape, texture and inner lining really appealed to me. Sometimes I do wish I could wear some coats inside out as the inner lining are becoming more and more of a fashion statement. I do also like Marks and Spencer's approach to accessorizng their clothes range with scarves and unique jewellery, in this case adding a black snood to the red coat So can't wait to wear my long awaited red coat and since I have to drag myself out in a bit later to take my son swimming, which I'm absolutely dreading since its cold and wet, I'm gonna cheer myself up by wearing my new red coat.
